About Us

Open Door Speech Therapy is a private practice servicing clients in Mesa, Arizona and surrounding areas. We serve clients with speech sound disorders including Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), language disorders, learning disabilities, fluency disorders, ASD and social/pragmatic language disorders.  One of the benefits of therapy in a private practice is the opportunity to work in a one on one or small group environment. This environment supports maximum focus, practice and growth. We work one on one with clients in my inviting home office or in the client’s home environment using motivating and functional materials. We also offer teletherapy.  Coaching and tips for caregivers and even siblings are discussed at the end of each session.

My Approach

Each student is different, and each student should have a plan that works for their own unique needs and abilities.  I create custom therapies and curriculum for each of my clients, and this is part of what I love about my job! I am a curious and life long learner and so my approach is always aligned with current best practices, dynamic, and sharply honed. My therapies are designed to motivate and engage my clients, and inspire them to do the hard work of therapy (but not realize how hard they’re working!)

My Story

As a recent college graduate, I stood before so many possible career doors, but didn’t know which one to choose. Not long after graduation, I had the opportunity to observe a seasoned SLP, and I instantly knew which door I would open. The joy she experienced in her work was obvious. The connection she had with her student was powerful. Above all, I knew I wanted to become a therapist who clients could trust. Trust to help them develop and improve one of the most important and valuable tools we have: communication. The joy, connection, and passion I discovered that day has stayed with me over my twenty year career, and motivates me every day to be an SLP with the ability to support clients in walking through doors they couldn’t open before.

Kind Words About Kristin & Open Door Speech Therapy

"Kristin has been such a blessing to our 10 year old daughter, Brinley. As Brinley was getting older, she was becoming aware of sounds she struggled with that other kids her age had outgrown. Kristin works with Brinley patiently but knows ways to push her without discouraging her. She uses fun reward systems as well. Brinley is excited for Kristin to come over each week and is given good resources to practice throughout the week between their sessions. We also enjoy that Kristin is easy to communicate with, is professional and uses her time with us well!"
